30 years ago, I wrote this:

Your mother has a stake in you

She needs you

just as you need her

only more so

For her need will continue

to speak

of the longing

of generations

In my daughter

I see the future

In my daughter

I see change

In my daughter

I see strength

In my daughter

I see power

In my daughter

In my daughter

In my daughter

Sarah Tremain is a sustainable fashion brand dedicated to using mending and clothing creation as a metaphor for healing trauma.

Sarah Tremain designs upcycled, small-batch, and print-on-demand pieces that blend fine art with wearable expression. Along with visible mending, custom design, and community workshops, they offer an antidote to fast fashion—one stitched with care, creativity, and collective restoration.

They envision a future where fashion is a force for healing, sustainability, and self-expression. Sarah Tremain’s pieces invite wearers to connect more deeply with their clothing, their story, and their values. By transforming discarded materials into thoughtfully crafted garments, they challenge the wastefulness of the industry and invite people to consider how their clothing can tell a story of care, resilience, and identity. The goal is to make sustainable fashion accessible, proving that what was once broken can become something extraordinary.

“I’m Sarah Tremain, but it’s also my mother’s name.  I’m honoring her art and healing process as a part of me, and also reworking it so that I honor what’s mine. It’s about what happens when two generations of artists choose to co-create instead of repeat patterns. My mom works with wax, pigment, and heat. Her work is textured, sacred, and steeped in her process. She paints what she feels. What she knows. What she remembers. I’ve built a brand around her pieces being digitally translated into fabric prints, usually reflected to create a symmetry — each one holding layers of history and emotional resonance. I cut them. Drape them. Stitch them into garments that wrap people in color and care.

When you wear a Sarah Tremain piece printed with my mom’s art, you’re wearing decades of devotion. Two women’s hands. Two lives learning how to live, love, and create more freely. You’re wearing a story of reclamation. Of repair.

Our relationship has never been simple. In fact, it’s been so enmeshed in most of my life that I didn’t know where my trauma began and my mother's ended.  There’s generational trauma, and there’s also generational creativity. We didn’t just inherit pain. We inherited art and the ability to heal together. Now we’re creating more than clothing. Through therapy, communication, and having grace for one another, we have landed in a new place. A place where we can come together as artists and healers and help others in community heal along with us. We’re co-hosting healing and mending workshops. Blending my work in upcycled fashion and personal storytelling with her deep knowledge of spiritual repair and sacred symbolism. Together, we’re building spaces where others can come to connect, reflect, and create from within.”
